Heritage happenings
We are now in what feels very much like heritage month, with upcoming Doors Open Days in Scotland and Heritage Open Days in England activities being organised by member pools.
Here are some of the highlights that you can look forward to:
On Saturday 6 September Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Baths is opening its doors. As well as enjoying being in the space, and getting a sense of the visual spectacle, there will be the opportunity to explore the building and view the architect’s plans that share Bon Accord Heritage’s vision for the future. There will also be performances from local musicians. Find out more here.
At one time Leeds had eight bathhouses, but Bramley Baths is now the sole survivor. So the opportunity to enjoy a tour celebrating its heritage on Saturday 13 September, is one not to be missed. All the booking details are here.
There are tours of Fore Street Baths in Ipswich taking place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September, which will give the chance to find out more about the history of the baths, with photographs on display showing different generations using the facilities. More information can be found here.
On Tuesday 16 September you can enjoy a Heritage Open Days experience at the Health Hydro in Swindon, which includes a tour and insight into the exciting plans that are underway to restore this unique building. Find out how to book here.
Taking part in Doors Open for the first time, on Saturday 20 September you can enjoy a tour of colourful Stonehaven Open Air Pool in Aberdeenshire, where you’ll also be able to see an exhibition showing the work of the Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool. There’s no need to book and more info is here.
Europe’s oldest members only pool, Arlington Baths Club in Glasgow, will be opening its doors to all on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September. As well as a guided tour you’ll be able to enjoy an exhibition about Turkish Baths. Places must be booked in advance, which can be done here.
