Saltdean Lido sets off on the final stages of its restoration

The next stage of the restoration of 1930s Saltdean Lido in Brighton is underway following incredible efforts by Saltdean Lido CIC and its funding partners, including National Lottery Heritage Fund. This sees work commencing to the iconic building that is central to what makes the UK’s only currently operating Grade II* listed lido (soon to be joined by Cleveland Pools when its restoration is completed) so special and loved by so many.

In 2010 the future looked bleak with plans to fill in the pool with concrete and build 102 apartments. But, first with the successful restoration of the pool, and now work focused on the building, Saltdean Lido will continue to fulfill its destiny of being a place for the community, health and wellbeing.

Plans for the building are very exciting: a year-round café bar with access to the Rotunda and sun decks, community spaces, a multi-purpose Ballroom, exercise studio, shared work space, heritage learning zone and restored library. Work is due to be completed in 2023.
