Bookings are open for our spring event at Hathersage Swimming Pool on Wednesday 17 May 2023
We are heading to the beautiful Derbyshire village of Hathersage on Wednesday 17 May to spend time exploring Hathersage Swimming Pool – a place where you can experience the joy of swimming in warm waters whilst taking in views of Stanage Edge and the Peak District landscapes.
Join us for a day of talks from historic pools representatives and aficionados, lunch and a swim. The day will begin at 10:30am, giving you time to look around the village first. We’ll meet in Hathersage Memorial Hall, a building that has been serving its community since 1928, for the talks before walking over to the outdoor pool for a behind the scenes guided tour and the chance to enjoy a swim.
Pool updates are one of the most popular aspects of our events and we are delighted that we’ll be hearing from Dennis Shannon, Facility Manager at Withington Baths in Manchester. If you follow the team on Twitter you’ll have seen tantalising images of their restoration project come to fruition, which has been made possible by a grant of £900,000 from the Heritage Fund, a loan of £1m from Manchester City Council and supplemented by the Bath’s own savings.
Ticketing systems can be tricky, time consuming to oversee and not always as user-friendly for customers as they could be. So we are delighted to welcome new corporate supporter Savoy Systems to the historic pools family and Tom See, Head of Customer Success, who will be joining us at Hathersage to share his insight and wisdom, as well as answer questions.
We’re also looking forward to finding out more about our host pool, Hathersage Swimming Pool – both its history, how it is operating today and its future plans.
Tickets can be booked by emailing Clare@historicpools.org.uk. HPB pool members automatically receive two free places and individual HPB membership comes with one free place – for each there is a small charge of £15 per person to cover lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Extra HPB pool member places are available to book at £30 each including lunch and refreshments. Swimming is included as part of the ticket. Non-member places are open to anyone and cost £45 including lunch, refreshments and a swim.
Refreshments will be available from 10:30am, with talks commencing at 11am. We expect the day to finish around 3:00pm, with final timings and the full programme to be confirmed shortly.
