HPB heads to Chester City Baths – 11 October 2023

We are looking to autumn and the historic town of Chester for our upcoming HPB event.  It will take place at Chester City Baths on Wednesday 11 October and bookings are now open.

Situated in the centre of Chester (a short walk from the station) and just across from Grosvenor Park, Chester City Baths has played a role in its community for over 100 years.  In recent times there have been significant challenges, but there is so much passion and support in place. We’ll be hearing more from the team about the Baths’ past, present and future and enjoy a behind the scenes tour, which is always a highlight.

Confirmed guest speakers are:

  • Julie Minns, Chair of Carlisle’s Victorian & Turkish Baths, who will be giving an update on an intensive few months, which has seen the Baths listed on the Victorian Society’s Top Ten Endangered Victorian and Edwardian Buildings list and the At Risk Register published by SAVE Britain’s Heritage.
  • Barry Johnson, who has been involved in overseeing the establishment and development of the archive at Victoria Baths.
  • Jimmy Lamb of Dryden Aqua, one of the largest manufacturers of glass filtration and a supporter of HPB.

Tickets can be booked by emailing clare@historicpools.org.uk.  HPB pool members automatically receive two free places and individual HPB membership comes with one free place – for each there is a small charge of £15 per person to cover lunch and refreshments throughout the day.  Extra HPB pool member places are available to book at £30 each including lunch and refreshments.  Swimming is included as part of the ticket. Non-member places are open to anyone and cost £45 including lunch, refreshments and a swim.

Refreshments will be available from 10:30am, with talks commencing at 11am. The day is expected to finish around 3:00pm, with final timings and the full programme to be confirmed shortly.
