Funding success for Motcombe Pool

There is much excitement in Eastbourne for Motcombe Pool, which has just secured funding for the first phase of its rejuvenation programme.  It has welcomed this news alongside celebrations for its 120th birthday.

The funding has been awarded by the Community Ownership Fund (COF), which is now part of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), and will make possible the transformation of the former pool attendant’s house into a Community Wellbeing and Creative Health Hub.  The work will take place during 2025.

Helen Nichols, Chair of Motcombe Community Pool Community Interest Company, said, “This project is not just about preserving a heritage building but creating a space that promotes creative health and happiness, while underpinning our long-term plans for the future of the pool itself.” The Friends of Motcombe Pool have played an instrumental role in keeping the project alive, the pool having been forced to close as a result of as the first Covid lockdown back in 2020.

Helen is one of the speakers at HPB’s summer event at Saltdean Lido in Brighton on Tuesday 24 June.  For more information email info@historicpools.org.uk.
