Chester City Baths announces reopening of its Pacific Pool

Chester City Baths is celebrating the fantastic news that it will be reopening its Pacific Pool during the autumn, which has been made possible thanks to a very generous donation from the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation.

Both the Pacific and Atlantic Pools were closed and drained during Covid 19. As a result of being drained the Victorian tiles lining the Pacific Pool cracked, necessitating extensive repair work before the pool could safely reopen. A fundraising campaign enabled this to happen, but the economy has been a challenge to the long-term financial sustainability of the Baths, which therefore continued to operate with just the Atlantic Pool until the reopening of the second pool became financially viable.

Brian McCann, Chair of the Trustees of Chester City Baths Limited, said, “From the moment the Pacific Pool closed during the pandemic, the Directors have been working towards reopening it at the earliest possible opportunity. We are delighted that we can now confirm its return in Autumn 2026.”

Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation’s donation has enabled the Baths to significantly expand its Learn to Swim programme, offer a wider range of aquatic fitness and wellbeing classes, and provide additional pool time for the aquatic sports clubs based at the Baths.

This is not only an important moment for this historic facility, but also represents a significant investment in the health, wellbeing and future of the Chester community for generations to come.
